New Build Full Smart Home – Hertfordshire

A stunning 5-bedroom new build home in the heart of St Albans with full automation throughout the property.  This client came to us from a referral looking to bring all the smart elements in their new home together.

From CAD drawings to on-site discussions, we worked with them from the ground up, using our extensive knowledge of AV to provide as much support in the build as possible…

Intelligent lighting

Lighting scenes, schedulers and security lighting were some of the key points raised when we initially met with the client. They wanted full control of these aspects to be able to edit scenes and schedules and with Control4, this was easily achievable. Remote access to the lights and the use of the “Mockupancy” setting raised the level of security in the house to above and beyond.

Smart Blinds

The integration of smart blinds throughout this project gives the client an easy to access way to control the levels and timings of when blinds raise and lower. Not only this but scene programming means the lights and blinds work together to set the correct mood in the room. Additionally, Control4 follows the sunrise and sunset times exact to the project location, meaning blinds can be set to lower to a certain percentage in the evenings to reduce glare and unwanted heat in the summer.

Multi-Room Video

With a total of 9 displays, introducing a multi-room video system in the house was a must. The client wanted to be able to seamlessly move from room to room and have the ability to view any video source on any display, this included Virgin Tivo boxes, Apple TV, Roku streaming stick and a Kaleidescape Movie Player.

Multi-Room Audio

Our client is big on listening to music. So distributed multi-room audio was a must on this project. 16 individual rooms of audio with in-ceiling Monitor Audio Speakers that can be combined and synchronised or play separate streams means no one misses out on listening to their favourite tunes. Also in large open plan areas where a display is commonly used, we provided soundbars to take the TV audio to the next level.

Networking

With a 4-story property, a reliable WiFi network is a requirement. We carefully planned a distributed WiFi network so that there is no loss of signal or speed in the house. Roaming from room to room or floor to floor, our client won’t notice any drop outs or loss in connection. Additionally, we make sure there is a hardwired connection for any static devices within the house, so they receive the best connection to the internet possible

Door Entry & Intercom

With Control4, we are able to integrate the main gate entry and a video doorbell at the front door to provide an intercom system that calls specific touchscreens throughout the house, plus the ability to also answer via the Control4 mobile application both at home and remotely. Control of the gates couldn’t be easier, our client can use a light switch button, the touchscreens, mobile application or a voice assistant.
