Chobham Home Cinema

The main issue our clients had was a cinema room would be too loud in the house and would become a nuisance and therefore un-usable.

But being a large enough space (6m x 4m) and also being in the basement with one door and no windows helped this potential problem be resolved instantly. As with many of our dedicated home theatre rooms we built a timber room within a room to house all the cabling, speakers and also provide soundproofing.

Plus, we added a raised platform at the rear of the room for a second row of seats and cabinetry for the AV equipment.

As a final step we played several frequency sweeps through the speakers so any rattles or creaks were dealt with before closing the room up.

The design is based on dark low light rooms with gentle wooden touches.

We used our stretch fabric and acoustic foam system to cover all the walls and ceilings with an acoustic Camira black fabric.  This alleviates any huge resonances, creates a tighter sound space in the room and covers over the speakers without losing any volume or quality in output.

We then broke up the walls in four areas with wooden Acupanels each combined with a wall light to subtly highlight the wooden features. The client opted for a lighter colour carpet and matching sofa seating to bring a gentle amount of light into the room.

For this project our clients chose the Bronze cinema package.

This includes an 11 speaker Dolby Atmos set-up, 2 x 10” subwoofers with dedicated power amps, High-class AV Receiver, 4K Laser Projection, 110” Projector Screen, 4K Blu-ray player and a Roku Ultra player.

Being a home that already runs Control4, the integration of the room into the central control system was straight forward with a dedicated remote, controller and smart lighting.

The Control4 automation solution provides our clients the ability to control the cinema from their mobile, touchscreen and/or handheld remote - as they prefer.

With our team of trained experts, we calibrate the equipment to cinema reference levels.

Without going into detail this complex part of the install is where the system comes to life. Setting speaker levels, crossovers and distances along with projector white/black levels, focus/sharpness and RGB calibration are just a few of the many steps to get the room ready for use.

Finally, we sit down with the client to give a demonstration on how to use the system whilst also advising and fine-tuning any Control4 programming they may require [i.e. increasing the smart lighting by 30% when the movie paused and turn off completely when it is resumed].
